Beaches

Montalto Marina beach

The municipality of Montalto di Castro boasts 25 km of coastline, with dark grey volcanic sand contrasting with the green mediterranean maquis edging the beaches.

Montalto Marina has approximately 1.5 km of seafront, with beach clubs, shops, restaurants, evening markets, nightclubs, pubs and plenty of fun.

In 2011 the beach of Montalto Marina received recognition as the most beautiful sea in Lazio. It was awarded by Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club who, as part of their annual Blue Sail classification, surveyed 367 seasides all over Italy, confirming their choice of Lazio’s coast. Marina di Montalto di Castro was awarded four sails for the second consecutive time.

Murelle beach

A beautiful beach that stretches for more than 4 kilometres, with picturesque dunes covered in mediterranean maquis. The water is blue, crystalline and transparent, with some rocks but mostly sandy seabeds. In this area lie the ruins of the Etruscan port of Regisville, which once stood before the present-day beach of Murelle.

Burano Nature Reserve

On the border between Lazio and Tuscany, there’s a 10 km stretch of sand that’s still wild and free.

The beach is part of the Burano Nature Reserve, founded in 1980 and the first WWF Oasis in Italy.

The beaches of Argentario

A few kilometres from Montalto di Castro is the Argentario promontory, characterised by countless little coves of rare beauty, crystal-clear sea and an abundance of sea life.To best appreciate the sea and beaches of Argentario, we recommend hiring a small boat or inflatable dinghy in Porto Santo Stefano or Porto Ercole to explore the promontory and admire the hidden coves, caves, islets and gorgeous beaches, only accessible from the sea. For an alternative experience, we recommend the beaches at Feniglia, Cala del Gesso, Cala Piccola, Mar Morto, La Cantoniera and Cala Grande.
